Orangerie Park
Laid out in the seventeenth century, Orangerie Park, the city’s oldest, covers 26 hectares a short walk from the European Parliament. You pass storks and peacocks, row on the small lake, picnic between plane trees. The hot waffles at the entrance are a must. A family-friendly yet always romantic setting for a stroll together in any season.
Place de la République and the German Quarter
Around Place de la République, the Imperial Quarter built under the German Empire between 1871 and 1918 reveals massive buildings: Palais du Rhin, National Library, theatre. Perspectives rival Vienna, avenues are lined with magnolias. This UNESCO-listed district deserves a slow walk and offers a striking contrast with the Grande Île: perfect to extend the conversation.
Towards Europe and the Rhine
To the north, the European Parliament with its round hemicycle and the Court of Human Rights draw a bold architectural landscape. Further on, the Garden of the Two Banks links Strasbourg and Kehl in Germany via the Mimram footbridge. In the Krutenau, terraces fill up in the evening. On Lyad, Strasbourg members share their favourite corners; it is up to you to find someone to cross the bridge with.
